Felix Laband at Nirox
Critically acclaimed South African musician and artist Felix Laband will produce a haunting audio-visual installation 'Why is Silence Allowed' that will publicly launch at NIROX Sculpture Park on Saturday 15 December alongside a once-off live electronic outdoor performance.
Laband will create the new work as part of his participation in the NIROX Foundation Artist Residency from 3 – 18 December. Cultural flaneur Jay Savage will work textually on the video sound installation with Laband as part of their ongoing artistic collaboration.
As Laband has not accepted any public music bookings or performances for several months, his live performance in NIROX’s natural surroundings will present a unique moment in time for those who have appreciated his journey over the past two decades.
Laband is making preparations to take his creative practice to Europe and so this will be an opportunity to experience this multifaceted artist in an environment that will allow him to perform to his true potential, outside the constraints of the club scene which he has acknowledged as a major compromise in his artistic integrity.
To visually document the story behind Laband’s creative process and artistic journey, acclaimed South African photographer Jonx Pillemer will also join him at NIROX for the two-week residency at the beginning of December.
